Mr. Panama — Marco Tibiletti

MR. PANAMA AT HEART

I NEVER WANTED TO CREATE A CHARACTER.

Mr. Panama is the name the journey chose for me.

Before the hats came fashion, photography and communication.

Years spent observing people, places and details.

I learned that authentic style needs no explanation.

It is recognised.

Then one question changed the direction of my life.

Where is the authentic Panama truly born?

To find that answer I left for Ecuador.

I was not simply looking for a hat.

I was looking for its origin.

THE JOURNEY

THE JOURNEY THAT CHANGED EVERYTHING.

I remember the mountains. The villages. The families.

People who over the years became part of my journey.

And above all the hands.

Hands that weave Toquilla fibre with the same naturalness with which others pass on a language or a story.

In those hands I did not only see a hat being born. I saw a culture. A heritage.

A knowledge that risks losing value every time the world forgets where it truly comes from.

In that moment I understood that my work would not be to create something new.

It would be to guard what already existed.

To carry it into the world with respect. Without changing its soul.

From that journey PanamaHatters was born.

DESIGN IN ITALY

In Ecuador I understood that I was not buying hats. I was being entrusted with a culture to pass on.

ECUADOR / ITALY

BETWEEN TWO WORLDS.

Since then I have lived between Ecuador and Italy.

In Ecuador I return every time to the origin. To the people. To the villages. To the families who guard this tradition.

In Italy that story continues its journey. Through design. Proportion. Balance.

Every hat is born thinking of a person. Of their face. Of the place where it will be lived.

My work is to build a bridge between two worlds.

Letting both keep their own identity.

THE NAME

WHY THEY CALL ME MR. PANAMA.

It was not a chosen name. It arrived with time.

First from the artisans. Then from clients. Then from friends.

Finally from the hotel directors with whom I have had the privilege of collaborating.

I realised that the Panama had become the invisible thread uniting every part of my life.

The journeys. The encounters. The collections. The people.

Still today I personally follow every project. Every selection. Every collaboration.

Because behind every Panama there is always a story.

And behind every story there must be someone willing to guard it.

Mr. Panama is not a character. It is a responsibility.

To guard an origin and accompany it into the world without betraying its soul.

THE CHOICE

THE RIGHT HAT. THE RIGHT PLACE. THE RIGHT PERSON.

Over the years I have seen a Panama become part of the most beautiful memories of many people.

An arrival at a hotel. A terrace by the sea. A day on the lake. A round of golf.

A boat. A journey. The deck of a yacht. A walk through city streets.

The elegant silence of a tennis final.

That is why I do not believe in impersonal selling.

I believe in listening. In advice. In choosing the right hat for the right person.

Because a Panama does not accompany a season. It can accompany a life.

And every time it is worn, it will carry back the memory of the place where everything began.

I never wanted Panama Hatters simply to be sold. I wanted it to be discovered.

THE MAISON

A MAISON WITH A FACE.

PanamaHatters is a Maison. But behind every Maison there must be people.

For a client it means entering directly into the world of the one who created the collection.

For a hotel it means working with someone who knows every step of the path, from artisanal origin to the final guest experience.

I do not simply design a selection of hats.

I try to understand a place. Its atmosphere. Its light. The people who will live it.

Only then does the right collection begin.

STYLE IS DNA

In Ecuador I understood that I was not buying hats. I was being entrusted with a culture to pass on.

STYLE IS DNA

STYLE IS WHAT REMAINS.

I believe style is not what we add. It is what remains.

A hat does not change a person. It simply makes them more recognisable.

That is what I continue to seek.

Not to create an image. But to help each person find the one that has always belonged to them.

THE CLOSING

THE JOURNEY CONTINUES.

I keep returning to the villages where everything began.

I keep learning from those who weave this story with their own hands.

I keep carrying it to the places where it will be lived.

Perhaps this is the true meaning of Mr. Panama.

Not to be the protagonist of the journey.

But to make sure that story continues to live.

Through PanamaHatters.

Through the people who choose to wear it.

Because some stories do not belong to those who tell them.

They belong to those who keep guarding them.

Created in Ecuador. Interpreted through an Italian eye. Made to travel.

#DOYOUPANAMA

What seemed like a moment of madness was perhaps the first true intuition of my life.
